MASSIVA [Massiva was the young nephew of Massinissa (c. 238 BC – 148 BC), a prince of ancient Numidia. Numidia was located in parts of present-day Algeria and Tunisia in North Africa. During the Second Punic War, Massiva was captured by the Romans in 209 BCE. He had participated in a battle against the Romans without his uncle's permission and was brought before the Roman general Scipio Africanus.

Scipio, upon learning Massiva's identity, freed him and sent him back to Massinissa laden with gifts. This act of generosity impressed Massinissa, who then switched his allegiance from Carthage to Rome. The event is depicted in the painting "Scipio Africanus Freeing Massiva" by Giovanni Battista Tiepolo.]
