Khaki Brownell
Khaki - Katherine Dodge Brownell - was my mother's sister. A medical doctor specializing in childrens' rheumatic heart disease, she graduated from John's Hopkins Medical School back in the days when that wasn't done, when women of her class stayed home and obeyed their husbands. She was a colonel in the US Army and played an important role in post-war relief in Greece. She married George Abbott Brownell, a New York corporate lawyer and former brigadier general who was (among among many good civic works) a principal founder of the National Security Agency (NSA). Aunt Khaki and Uncle George were active with Leake and Watts in New York City.
